A gentle style of Yoga. Originating from Taoist thought, Yin Yoga works on the deep tissues through stillness and non-action, through the breath and being. Integration of the body's meridians. It naturally induces a meditative state.
Firstly, what is Yin Yang? More than 2000 years ago, the Chinese, by observing natural phenomena, deduced two things: nothing is stable, everything changes and nothing is independent, everything is interconnected. According to them, everything was cyclical, even life: conception, birth, growth, maturity, decline and then death, the final stage to start the same series again. This cycle is possible thanks to Qi (pronounced Tchi), the movement that links Yin to Yang and vice versa. Yin-Yang is therefore not, as it is too simply defined, an opposition of opposites but a perpetual restart.
Yin is the first stage, that of maturation before giving way to Yang, the time of expression. We have been Yin and we are now Yang. But we must learn to become Yin again from time to time to better find our Yang side.
Yin Yang yoga remains faithful to Chinese philosophy by proposing a cycle of energy, where one force dominates the other before being reversed. A Yin Yang yoga session is divided into two parts. A dynamic yoga, the Yang, which solicits the muscles and tendons, is mixed with a soft yoga, the Yin, which addresses more the connective tissues, the fascias and the ligaments. These two opposites combine and balance our body, marrying our active, solar side with our passive, lunar side.
We begin with a series of meditation exercises and mantras to harmonise the mind. Then we settle into several postures, using bricks or cushions to support our body weight for a few minutes. We stretch our muscles and tendons deeply while letting go. Then we finish with the "savasana" posture, to assimilate the benefits of the practice.
*During the postures, relaxing music, readings of poems, stories about personal development, fear and other subjects to evolve in one's own path.
